Mark Lanier to be featured guest

Since coming together in 2010, HIs Heart Quartet has been one of the most popular names on the Southern Gospel scene in Kentucky. 

The group will be celebrating its 16th Anniversary on July 25 at Crosswoods Baptist Church near Lexington. The concert, which will also feature soloist Mark Lanier, begins at 6:30 p.m. There is no admission charge but an offering will be received.

And the concert might be a time of celebrating some noticeable changes in how the quartet delivers the gospel message. No, His Heart has not abandoned its distinctive Southern Gospel roots, but it has expanded its repertoire to reflect the shifts in musical tastes in 2026.

Popular singer truly knows ‘God Can’

Sidelined by horse riding accident, Sowder counts his blessings in return to His Heart Quartet

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. – When he stepped on the stage with His Heart Quartet at Sand Spring Baptist Church, Bill Sowder hopped around with an energy that would belie the fact that he’s now 69 years old. He moved. He thrust his forefinger toward Heaven. He pumped his fist.

It was vintage Sowder, one of Kentucky’s best-known gospel music personalities.

And it’s certainly not what one would expect from someone who was supposed to just be learning to walk again.

“I tell you, I feel like a million bucks. I might look like a Dollar General store but I feel like a million bucks,” Sowder said shortly before His Heart opened for Triumphant Quartet.

His heart is with the Rockets

To gospel music fans across Kentucky, he’s one of the most recognizable faces in the Commonwealth. Sowder is the owner of and sings a smooth baritone for His Heart, a very popular regional group that travels throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. Whether he’s singing or not, when Bill Sowder shows up at a gospel music event, he’s a popular fellow.

His Heart delivers “Truth” in latest CD

When His Heart Quartet went in the studio for the group’s newest CD, there might have been a bit of apprehension about a new work that emphasized the old.
