Third Annual Central Kentucky Sing to be held Sept. 12

Not long after Brady Jones joined The Kingsmen Quartet, he started dreaming of bringing something big to his hometown.

Three years later, that idea has grown into The Central Kentucky Sing, one of the biggest nights of gospel music in the Commonwealth. This year’s event is set for the Butler County High School gymnasium in Morgantown. The singing gets underway at 6 p.m., Central Daylight Time.

The event will be hosted by Jones and The Kingsmen and will feature some of the hottest names in Southern Gospel, Scotty Inman and The Inspirations, both carrying strong ties to the Morgantown area. Also scheduled to appear are Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Famer Danny Funderburk and United Quartet, which features some members of the old Crossmen Quartet.. An all-star jam session is also planned for the evening.

Popular Southern Gospel personality Josh Franks will serve as the master of ceremonies.

There will be no admission charge for the concert but an offering for the events’ expenses will be received.

“I came up with this idea early on, within a month of me joining the Kingsmen,” Jones says. “In my hometown, we really didn’t have any events like that. 

“I thought about doing it in Bowling Green (about 25 miles southeast) but I wanted to bring it to my hometown. The high school is the best place to do it.”

The Butler County High gymnasium’s listed capacity for basketball is 2,000 people. While the Central Kentucky Sing has not filled the bleachers yet, the crowds have been growing since the event began in 2024.

“The first year, it was The Kingsmen and United. We had probably 350 to 400 people there. It was a great night,” Jones recalled. 

The Kingsmen and United returned to the stage last year, but the lineup expanded to include Scotty Inman and Danny Fuderburk along with Mercy’s Won, a group based in Bowling Green. “About 450 people was my best estimate,” Jones said. 

The Third Annual Central Kentucky Sing will feature Inman, who released his new CD project Raised on Faith on Sept. 4, and The Inspirations, named The Singing News Fan Awards Favorite Quartet the last two years.

Inman, who sang with Triumphant Quartet for over 20 years before going solo in 2023, lives in Morgantown and helped plant a church there in 2020. “Scotty is not from there, but he moved there when he got married,” Jones said. “He picked the right place of where to come!”

The Inspirations will be making their first appearance at the Central Kentucky Sing. Luke Vaught, the group’s dynamic instrumentalist and baritone singer, hails from Barren County, about an hour east of Morgantown.

“There has been a lot of great talent come out of the area around Morgantown,” Jones said. “The Crossmen made a big impact on a lot of people. The Crabb Family is from (neighboring) Ohio County. Of course, Jon Epley is from close by. Within 20 miles, we have a lot more gospel music than people realize.”

And on Sept. 12, Jones and The Kingsmen will be looking to celebrate that heritage in the ever-growing event. 

“We are a very small town,” Jones says of his home. “We have about three stoplights.” The 2020 census counted just under 2,500 residents.

But it’s where one of the most promising bass singers in Southern Gospel learned his craft. 

“It means a lot to me to be able to do this event,” Jones continued. “It’s where I have lived all  21 years of my life. It’s amazing to get to come back to where I graduated high school and see so many of my friends and family and get to do this.”
